Lula

July 15, 2008

Lula was starving and on the streets and was rescued a couple of months ago by my dog walker and her friend. They’re both on disability. Lula is about 1 year old, was happy and gaining weight but was still able to slip through the bars on the window the other night and FELL FIVE FLOORS to the street. She suffered fractures but will survive. Her left front leg has been amputated and she will remain quiet and contained for 6 weeks while her pelvis mends. We are asking that you open your heart and help pay for some of LULA’S treatment. Karen Heidgerd at Animal General was kind enough to take LULA and give her immediate treatment for half of what the Bronx Animal Hospital was asking. Her care is costing $3,351.00 I’ve chipped in a thousand. Please I’m asking you donate anything.

Can you to help save LULA! $5, $10. $25 or any amount. Please write your check or money order to Animal General and address the envelope to

Lula is home now and is resting comfortably.

Pucker Up

July 7, 2008

Supreme Master Ching Hai said recently that if all people would go vegetarian it would take 60 days for the earth to calm down. No more disasters, earthquakes, floods, volcanoes erupting, tsunamis, you name it....A UN report of 2006 Livestock's Long Shadow said that the fastest way to curb Global Warming was to reduce the consumption of meat. So if we want some INSTANT GRATIFICATION for our planet....we could give it a try- just PUCKER UP and

KISS the MEAT GOODBYE

GO VEG * BE GREEN * BE COOL

Climate Change

SOS

February 18, 2008

My friend Stacy Moon did the graphics. It's not subtle but neither is the climate situation. After many yes and no's we decided to put Obama in the picture - I hope he's cool with that - no pun intended.....

interviews

January 10, 2008

My all-time favorite is Supreme Master Television www.suprememastertv.com. It's 24/7 broadcasting POSITIVE programming. Below is a show where I did some interviewing.

In a groundbreaking 2006 report, the United Nations (U.N.) said that raising animals for food generates more greenhouse gases than all the cars and trucks in the world combined. Senior U.N. Food and Agriculture Organization official Henning Steinfeld reported that the meat industry is "one of the most significant contributors to today's most serious environmental problems."

Shadow

September 2, 2007

Thanks to Holly at Waggytailrescue, Ruffy and I have a new friend named Shadow. A 22-pound miniature Poodle mix. He’s supposedly 12 years old. However once he jumped off the transport truck from the Brooklyn CACC it was evident this was no senior citizen. We think he’s about 6 years old with no teeth. We had to take them all out. But his vitality is on GO! We’ve met a whole new world through Shadow: Holly from Waggytail, Marissa & Caitlin from Running Paws, Dr. Hoope at Symphony Vet, Jose Luis the best groomer ever, Mia from Second Chance Training, Charlotte from Sweden, Mina from Venice, Alison the artist from Astor Court, John from Pet Stop, Roy the photographer – wonderful people, wonderful Shadow, wonderful world!

Shadow's "Hollywood Pose"

Shadow is a spiritual dog. Shadow’s mantra is “Don’t leave home without me!” Separation Anxiety! We’ve been rehearsing exiting - opening and closing doors like a French Farce. I now can go to the bathroom in private and shut the door without a Greek Tragedy. Otherwise there’s clawing and pawing and barking when I close the front door. It’ll take time.

Save a Chick

Posted on June 14, 2007

I asked the artist, Kathy Wyatt and my friends Bill Kosmas, Gretchen Burnett, Andrea End, Lois Meredith, Susan Biehn and David Seidler if we couldn't come up with a reminder of how precious life is in all its many forms. Well, Hey! - It's only a T-shirt but it's a gesture of hope.

Part Fifteen

To chemo or not to chemo? - a question Hamlet never had to ask. Cancer has changed me. It’s a job. It requires lots of time and attention and work with no salary. The oncologist serving tea said, “I know this sounds unbelievable, but someday you’ll find that having cancer is a blessing.” “Yeah? Easy for you to say!” I thought. But then again, maybe he had something there. I remembered a question from psychology class: How is a fly and a tree the same? The answer: “they’re both alive. Similarly, before cancer and after cancer - I’m the same: I’m alive. So that’s a pretty big blessing. So far so good………

special words

“If we want to truly lead a life of "Love thy nieghbor," our neighbors should include our animal friends, especially since they harm us in no way. They only beautify our lives; they are loving, and they make our lives more lively, colorful and interesting. We should preserve them, watch them, love them and enjoy their presence. God has made it clear; He says, "I made all the animals to befriend you and help you." - Supreme Master Ching Hai
